| WELCOME!
We
would like to introduce you to One Tree Martial
Arts (OTMA). We are a very unique group of martial
artists who believe that martial arts training
should not be limited to just kicks and punches.
We believe that we should be serving
others and our community with the skills
that we learn in the Dojo. Please allow us to
tell you a little more about our unique school.
OTMA's BEGINNING
One Tree Martial Arts began in 1999 when Master
Buchholz began teaching several students
privately at his home in western Wisconsin.
After word spread that he was teaching, many
people started asking to join Master B's small,
home-based school.
Master B was soon convinced that although they
recognized the benefits of the martial arts'
training, many people had been reluctant to
train because of misunderstandings they had
about the martial arts. They had been told that
the martial arts were either violent or based
on eastern religious philosophies.
|
"When
fear is removed
the arrogance of
uncertainty is dispelled.
Therefore it is no longer
necessary for one to
prove himself in any
form of combat.
By learning how to
fight, we learn
how not to fight."
|
It was after this realization that Master Buchholz
committed himself to training students in quality
martial arts built on a strong foundation of positive
character and respect. As a result, One Tree Martial
Arts was born and hundreds of students have since
learned martial arts from this perspective. A perspective
that, Master B believes, exemplifies the true martial
arts.
OTMA's
MISSION
At
One Tree Martial Arts, our mission is to teach
the highest quality blend of traditional and modern
day martial arts and to try to instill in each
student self confidence, good health and fitness
habits, a strong character, an awareness of others
as well as the skills needed to defend themselves.
We believe that these traits, once acquired, will
positively affect every aspect of a student's
life, and that by instilling these skills, our
students will be motivated to become dynamic leaders
in our community and will also develop the positive
personal qualities to become successful in life.
We accomplish our mission by teaching practical
martial arts within a structured system of goal
setting alongside authentic encouragement and
motivation and, whenever needed, personal attention
that acknowledges the uniqueness of every individual
student. |
HOW
IS OTMA DIFFERENT?
One Tree Martial Arts is different in many ways. One
way is our emphasis on character development. Another
major difference is how we focus on REAL martial arts
not simply movements that look flashy or impressive.
We do not teach "martial dance" at OTMA. Yet,
as serious as we take the martial arts, we have a great
time doing it!
THE
OTMA DIFFERENCE!
While
many, if not most martial arts schools will speak
about the acquisition of positive character being
a by-product of their training, One Tree's curriculum
focuses on this character as the foundation
of each student's training. We believe that an individual
must possess a strong character before they
learn martial arts skills. Placing an emphasis on
this character training ensures that students understand
and are able to make wise choices about when, where
and why to use their martial arts skills. In this
way, we continue the time honored tradition of a martial
artist being someone who is mild mannered and peaceful.
At OTMA, students will also gain the most effective
martial arts skills being taught anywhere in the area.
We are a practical, effective school of the martial
arts. No flowery, performance based curriculum here.
This character coupled with the REAL martial arts
skills, give all OTMA students valuable life skills
that will help them everyday of their life with their
school, work, relationships and family. It makes the
choice easy when you are ready to begin what could
be one of the most rewarding journeys of your life.

MASTER
JEREMY BUCHHOLZ
Master Buchholz, our school's founder, was born
in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He has studied many
martial arts beginning his training with the
Korean arts of Taekwondo and Hapkido. He has
also trained in the Northern Shaolin, Southern
Hung Gar and Wing Chun Kungfu styles as well
as Tai-Chi, Shuri-Ryu, Jui-Jitsu, Kobudo and
others.
Master
Buchholz has worked as a law enforcement officer
in Colorado and is currently an officer in Wisconsin.
He studied police and military defensive tactics,
narcotics interdiction, as well as SWAT, anti
terrorism and hostage negotiations. On the street
he has put these tactics along with his martial
arts techniques to the test and found them to
be very effective.
In
the past Master Buchholz has also worked extensively
with inner city youth and juvenile delinquents
and their families in Wisconsin, Indiana and
Colorado. He has received several awards for
his work including recognition from the Honorable
Judge Payne of the Marion County (Indianapolis)
Juvenile Court System.
|
Master
Buchholz also spent time in Moscow, Russia working
with youth, as well as teachers, work for which he
received three United States Congressional Records.
In
1998, Master Buchholz returned to Wisconsin and shortly
after began One Tree Martial Arts, an organization
dedicated to teaching martial arts and the character
needed to responsibly use martial arts skills to serve
others. Since that time One Tree Martial Arts (OTMA)
has grown to become a major learning center for the
martial arts with programs in the Korean, Japanese
and Chinese arts.
Master
Buchholz' philosophy of teaching is to exhaust his
knowledge of martial arts to any student who has a
desire to learn and to diligently apply him or herself
to their study. Master Buchholz often quotes, "a
teacher can show the student a door, but the student
must walk through it". Master Buchholz is dedicated
to teaching the martial arts based on a strong foundation
of positive character to ensure that the student will
always use his or her skills in a proper way.
Master
Buchholz encourages anyone who has even the slightest
interest in any aspect of the martial arts to inquire
about training at our school. The rewards will always
be greater than anticipated.
